Lucas Tousignant

My art is a form of escapism for me. It allows me to relax and step away from the stresses of everyday life. I find solace in creating fantastical and unreal worlds, and my work often reflects this. I take great pride in the level of detail I include in my art, even if it is not always immediately visible. Through my art, I explore both the non-human experience and aspects of the human form, as they allow me to step back from what is immediately around me. The process of creating something new and unique is both challenging and rewarding, and it gives me a sense of accomplishment and purpose. One of the mediums I mainly use to create my art is clay, as it allows me to use my hands while creating, something that I've always enjoyed since I was a child.

Using clay as a medium allows me to explore the art in every dimension, including time. The process of sculpting, molding, and manipulating the clay gives my artwork a sense of life and movement. The tactile nature of working with clay also allows me to create more organic and fluid forms that are not possible with other mediums. Additionally, experimenting with how the clay dries over time, or how the elements may take effect on a piece is something I’ve tried to recently experiment with.

I am particularly drawn to the fantastical and otherworldly elements in my art. The process of creating something that doesn't exist in the real world is both exciting and freeing. I am able to let my imagination run wild and create something that is entirely my own. I enjoy playing with the idea of the unexpected and the unknown, and I find that it keeps my art fresh and exciting. Additionally, I take great care in the details of my work, ensuring that even the smallest details are well thought out and executed.

In addition to exploring the fantastical and unreal, I also incorporate elements of the real world into my work. I like to explore the complexities and nuances of human emotions, relationships, and experiences. I find that by doing so, I am able to create a sense of connection and relatability in my art.
