Gabriella D’Orto
I enjoy creating all sorts of art works, whether it be photography, digital, or painting. I have always loved to try out new things, which has led me to explore all different types of mediums. Watercolor is especially intriguing to me because I am able to capture objects and colors in a light and gentle way, especially for works of nature; I even like using watercolor pencils to show more defined texture for emphasis. To contrast this soft look, I have tried copic markers and have really liked the styles I can achieve with them; they are engaging to work with because I can show off bold colors and sharp lines. Copic markers are what I normally use to create a character or cartoonish look, which I have enjoyed doing for years. In addition, I also use watercolor markers as a way to mimic the look of watercolors with the bright colors from copics. Photography has also been another meaningful part of art. To me, photographs are a snapshot of time and a visual representation of memories or emotions.
I get inspiration from many different sources: songs, TV shows, books, people, or even school. I have recently found interest in creating pieces that mimic philosophy or scientific theories. These topics have always been of interest to me, and now I am finally able to try out exploring this in my art. I have developed many ideas for portraying these subjects, writing them down on anything so I can remember them. Leaping from idea to idea is a really big part of my creative process and finding a way to show these changes in my art is something I am continuously working on. Even though my thoughts can be disorganized, I never want to limit myself if a project is out of my comfort zone. I will give anything a go in order to forward my artist skills and enjoy the creative experience!
